Personal Background :

I grew up in Poplar Bluff, a small town in southeast Missouri. I have two older brothers, Bruce and Bob, and as youngsters we sorely tested our mother Judy, who raised us by herself while often working more than one job to make ends meet. We inherited our work ethic from her.

I was raised in the Lutheran Church and have found faith to be a strong support during the difficult times in life. Like the last few years of graduate school. My closest friends had completed their masters degrees, decided not to pursue their doctorates, and moved on to their new careers. My future wife had received her masters degree in architecture, taken a position in St. Louis, and ours had become a long distance relationship. My research was consuming most ever waking hour and the end was nowhere in sight. It's times like those when I've really appreciated the strength that comes from the love of Jesus Christ.

My wife, Diane, and I married while I was still in graduate school, and began to reside together a year later. We now have two beautiful little girls, Adrienne, who is eight years old and in the third grade at Indian Hill Elementary School, and Natalie, who is two years old and plays with her friends at Seton Daycare. Diane is a project architect at Workshop Architect in Milwaukee. We enjoy theatre, photography and the visual arts, and sailing. Diane tolerates my love for jazz and blues, and my childish infatuation with science fiction.
