Personal Background (Really Interesting - read this :-):
I was born on May 1, 1956 in Sacramento, California (remember: California natives are smart as we've left the state; the fruit-cakes and nuts are all the people who have moved into the state!); I married my best friend, Karen Ann Kellar, on August 13, 1977 (BTW, my wife happens to be the smartest person I know; I wish I could get her to teach class for me, or at least to complete my PhD for me!); We have 5 children: Josh (1980), Sabrina (1982), David (1985), Daniel (1990), and Valerie (1993). We live in Milwaukee, WI and I drive a 1989 Pontiac 6000 STE with 110,000 miles on it (Boss, I could use a raise!). I love teaching at CUW. I want to teach at a school where I can integrate my Christian worldview into the classroom.
Teaching is about passion. You must love what you do, and you must communicate that passion - that excitement - to others. Above all, I teach for the LORD (Colossians 3:23).
Computer science is a fantastic field because it deals with means of solving problems. Obedient to God's command (Genesis 1:28, 2:15), I, as a computer scientist, investigate new, creative ways of solving problems.
Actually computer science is my second love; Cosmogony is my true passion. Using both scientific and philosophical arguments, I can state that "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth" Genesis 1:1 and "For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them." Exodus 20:11. I take God's Word seriously. The scientific evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of a universe created ex nihilo by God in the recent past. Ask me about my favorite topics: evidence of design in the solar system, distance to the stars, polonium halos, information theory, interpretation of fossils, and worldviews (biases) in science.
Computer science is fantastic, but Cosmogony
deals with the meaning of life. Every Christian needs to understand the
concepts of Evolution and Creation from both a scientific and a worldview
perspective. If you're at CUW, I invite you to my Winterim course - Science
303: Cosmogony - to learn more.
