The Macintosh LC ("Low Cost"), also known as the "Performa," was intended to be a "budget" machine for home users. When it was introduced, it was the cheapest color-capable Macintosh. Apple sold 500,000 LCs within 12 months of its introduction.
The LC's CPU (the 68020) was a 32-bit processor, but the system bus was only 16-bit. This slowed the LC's speed considerably. It remained in production for a little over two years, from October 1990 to December 1992.
Interesting historical note: The LC was one of the first Macintoshes to ship with a microphone.
