The PDP-8 series is often considered to be the "Model T" of computers, because it was the first series of computers to be mass- produced at an affordable price.

The PDP-8e was the first computer to use a standard hardware bus (Omnibus), which greatly simplified the process of adding expansion boards to the machine. The PDP-8e Omnibus was the predecessor to the ISA and PCI expansion buses in modern PCs. About 50,000 PDP-8 machines were produced, with over one-fifth being the 8e model.
