The first Intel 80386 processors were shipped in October of 1985. Consisting of 275,000 transistors, the 386 was able to address up to 4GB of RAM and 64 terabytes of virtual memory.

Two versions of the 386 were produced. The original (known as the 386 DX) had a 32-bit data bus, and the 386 SX had a 16-bit data bus. Both versions were produced in 16, 20, 25, and 33 Mhz models. The 386's million instructions per second (MIPS) rating ranged from 5 (16 Mhz model) to 11.4 (33 Mhz model).
